CGB. Centre of Genetics and Biotechnology


Mission

The Center of Genetics and Biotechnology – CGB - is a Research and Development (R&D) unit of the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD) (www.utad.pt) financed by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia – FCT, that develops fundamental and applied research, experimentation, under-graduate and post-graduate (Advanced Courses, Master and PhD) teaching programmes on: theoretical and applied genetic sciences and biotechnology of plants, animals and microorganisms for agriculture, forestry and animal production, agri-food sciences, safety and food traceability, animal and human health genetics, genome organization and life evolution studies, genetic variability, biodiversity, and genetic resources.
At UTAD, CGB reflects a Departmental cooperation with staff from the Genetics and Biotechnology Department and the Food Sciences Department being constituted by Full Professors, other Professors and Post-Doc Researchers (in a total of 13 PhD researchers). Also a large number of Post-Doc, PhD and Master Students, are working in research projects going on.
At the last International External evaluation organized by FCT to all the Portuguese Research Centers the CGB was classified as “Excellent”.
