Opened in 1985, the Tropical Weeds Research Centre (TWRC) is situated in Charters Towers in north Queensland. TWRC has built a strong reputation for its tropical pest research, particularly in the fields of integrated weed management, Class 1 weeds and feral pig management. Approximately 20 officers work out of Charters Towers on pest issues associated with the dry tropics, while a small satellite group of 4-5 staff are based at the Centre for Wet Tropics Agriculture (CWTA) near South Johnstone to undertake pest research in the Wet Tropics bioregion of north Queensland.
